Emerging Artist Mentorship Program

OUTeast Film Festival Association is pleased to announce the first participant in their Emerging Artist Mentorship Program.

OUTeast will offer ongoing, hands-on mentorship to 21-year old emerging film and video artist Morgan Strug through the process of creating, producing, and presenting an original queer video project. The mentorship will culminate in a presentation of Morgan’s work at the OUTeast Film Festival in June, 2012, headlining an Emerging Artists Showcase Event.

The mentorship will provide Morgan individualized hands-on training with the staff of the OUTeast Film Festival, offering support in technical production, editing, and pitch development, as well as promotion and coordination of the Emerging Artists Showcase Event.

The Emerging Artists Showcase will feature Morgan’s film, and the work of other young queer filmmakers. This fall, OUTeast will encourage submissions from young queer filmmakers throughout our region. Please stay tuned for updates.

Queer Film in Public Spaces: The OUTeast peepIN Project

The OUTeast Film Festival is launching its first public screening series Queer Films in Public Spaces: The OUTeast peepIN Project. As one of the earliest precursors to cinema, the peep show has played a role in public storytelling and entertainment for nearly 600 years. From live shows to the traveling “wonderbox”, OUTeast re-envisions these models as a stage to present contemporary queer film.

The first presentation of the OUTeast peepIN will take place October 15 in the windows of the CBC Radio Building at Halifax’s visual art festival, Nocturne: Art at Night. OUTeast will present collaborative video work by Canadian artists Nolan Natasha Pike (Toronto), Kim Sheppard (Halifax), Krista Davis (Halifax) and Cari Tangedal (Dawson City).
